The Book Devotions

When did you get your first❓

Hey, Reader!

My oldest son got his first library card last week, and, boy-oh-boy, it made my heart grow three sizes.

Our sweet clerk explained all of the responsibilities and privileges that come with the card, as he nodded along and carefully printed his name in black Sharpie on the line below the barcode.

What was his first checkout? A book about rainforests. 🐒

Later that day, my younger son said something that melted my heart.

"Mommy, I have a plan of the books I'm going to read."

A plan! Oh, do tell.

He stacked his library books in the order he wants to read them. Minimal yet effective.

My boys are not super-readers by any means, but, little by little, they're absorbing readerly elements into their lives as a matter of course. Every day, we make time for independent, free-choice reading, and I know they associate it with relaxation, comfort, entertainment, and enjoyment.

That's what I call a good start.

🍿 We now have a trailer for the miniseries based on A Gentleman in Moscow by Amor Towles. Ewan McGregor seems a spot-on Count Rostov. I'm intrigued.

As always, I'll leave you with one irresistible indulgence—a flowery addition to your stationery set.
